Master by Research in Biological and Biomedical Sciences

About this Program

This programme is jointly run by Tianjin University and the University of Liverpool. It integrates the high-quality educational resources of both universities, and fully adopts the curriculum system of UoL (courses are delivered either by faculty from UoL or by TJU faculty following the teaching standards of UoL). It is dedicated to cultivating outstanding talents in the biomedical field with international perspectives, innovative capabilities, and the adaptability to meet the demands of global economic development.

The MRes in Biological and Biomedical Sciences will enable students to develop an advanced knowledge of biological and biomedical sciences and their application to biological research and translational medicine. The programme will allow students the opportunity to specialise in distinct basic and applied research pathways. Such a course often serves as a major step towards PhD studies or a career in research-related roles in academia or industry.

If a student is looking to move into a career in science, whether in academia, industry or biomedicine research, this MRes will enable him/her to develop advanced knowledge, skills and understanding in biological and biomedical sciences.

The programme is divided into 7 pathways (Bio-Imaging; Cancer Biology and Therapy; Cell and Tissue Signalling; Bioinformatics and AI; Pharmacology and Toxicology; Plant Biology; Structural Biology) and students will be able to choose a pathway and corresponding project that matches their individual research interests.

A range of optional modules provide the opportunity to undertake further tailored research training, receive a grounding in essential statistical techniques and study specialist areas of biological and biomedical science in-depth. Whichever pathway students choose, they will discover contemporary debates, controversies, concepts, challenges and innovations that are relevant to their research project.

Program Planning

Students need to complete 190 credits (according to UoL credit system), including 180 credits of courses offered by Uol and one course offered by TJU (converted to the 10-credit standard of UoL). Students who meet the degree requirements will be formally awarded the Master by Research in Biological and Biomedical Sciences by UoL.

Curriculum and Credit Requirements are as follow:
