Admission to Master's Programs of The Tianjin University Liverpool Fuzhou Joint Institute

I. About TJU-UoL

In December 2018, the Fuzhou Municipal Government, Tianjin University, and the Fujian Provincial Department of Education signed an agreement to jointly establish a high-level talent cultivation and strategic scientific research hub in the Coastal New Area of Fuzhou. The International Joint Institute of Tianjin University, Fuzhou (abbreviated as TJU Fuzhou) is responsible for the admission, education and research of Tianjin University in Fuzhou.

In December 2025, the Ministry of Education of China officially approved the establishment of The Tianjin University Liverpool Fuzhou Joint Institute (abbreviated as TJU-UoL, License No.: MOE35UKA02DNR20252572N). TJU-UoL, under the administration of TJU Fuzhou, offers UoL Master’s Degree Programs and TJU-UoL Dual Master's Degree Programs. Now the UoL Master’s Degree Programs are open for applications.

II. Program Details

l Program Duration: 1.5 years (18 months), with the entire study period conducted at TJU-UoL.

l Graduation Requirements: Students need to complete 190 credits (according to UoL credit system), including 180 credits of courses offered by Uol and one course offered by TJU (converted to the 10-credit standard of UoL). Upon successful completion of all requirements prescribed in the jointly approved program curriculum, eligible students shall be awarded a Master’s degree by UoL. (Sample Certificate)

l Tuition Fees: The total tuition fee is RMB 150,000 per student (payable in a lump sum upon enrollment). The tuition covers core components such as course instruction, academic resource usage, and supervision by dual supervisors (excluding miscellaneous expenses like textbooks and accommodation. Specific details are subject to the official tuition fee announcement).

IV. Application Requirements

1. Academic Background

l MSC in Computer Science: a Bachelor degree in a science or engineering related major, such as Mathematics or Physical Sciences, but should not be in Computer Science.

l MSC in Advanced Data Science and AI: a Bachelor degree in a computer science major or a closely related major.

l MRES Biological and Biomedical Sciences: a Bachelor degree in a Biological Science major or a closely related major.

l MSC Pharmacology and Toxicology: a Bachelor degree in a Biological Science major or a closely related major. Candidates must have a scientific background acceptable to the Program Director.

2. Undergraduate Academic Performance Requirements

(1) China:

• Top 100 university as listed under 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (2025 Shanghai Ranking) orDouble First-Class universities (MoE, People’s Republic of China, including those with first-class disciplines): 75 percent or above (Weighted Average Mark)

• Other universities: 80 percent or above (Weighted Average Mark)

(2)Other countries:

A UK Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2) degree or above, or an equivalent qualification from other countries (for details, please refer to: https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/study/academic-quality-and-standards-division/academic-codes-of-practice/code-of-practice-on-assessment/)

3. English Language Proficiency Requirements

For the September 2026 intake, the test date for the above language exams should be no earlier than January 1, 2024.

If you do not meet the above requirements but achieve scores meeting the conditions below, you can attend a Pre-sessional English course (Course fees are charged separately) either at the UoL main campus or at TJU-UoL in Fuzhou. Upon passing the course assessment, you will be deemed to have met the English language entry requirement.

l English language exemption requirements

You will qualify for an exemption from the English language requirement if one of the following applies to you:

A. You are a national of a majority English-speaking country: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, USA, UK

B. You have fully completed/are completing a degree which has been taught and assessed in English (Chinese joint venture programmes are not included), and your degree shall be conferred no earlier than 1 January 2024 with an English proficiency letter issued by the institution. The English proficiency letter should:

- be typed and printed on institutional letterhead

- bear the seal/signature of the issuing authority

- indicate your degree has been taught and assessed entirely in English

C. You have completed/are completing a degree from one of the universities listed below. Your degree shall be conferred no earlier than 1 January 2024: Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, University of Nottingham Ningbo China, New York University Shanghai, Wenzhou-Kean University, Duke Kunshan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Beijing Normal-HongKong Baptist University, Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology
